About the Surrey Association of Woodturners
The Surrey Association of Woodturners (SAW) was founded in 1990 with a simple aim — to bring together people who share a passion for woodturning and to help each other develop skills, knowledge and enjoyment of the craft.
Today, we are a friendly and thriving club with over 100 members, ranging from complete beginners to highly experienced turners.
At the heart of SAW is a willingness to share — ideas, techniques, inspiration and practical advice — in a welcoming and supportive environment.
What we do
We meet on the second Friday of each month at The Mytchett Centre, 140 Mytchett Rd, Mytchett, Camberley GU16 6AA where we host demonstrations, talks and practical sessions covering a wide range of woodturning techniques and topics. Our meetings are friendly and informal, with plenty of opportunity to ask questions, share ideas and learn from one another.
• Demonstrations and guest speakers
• Hands-on workshops and learning opportunities
• Competitions and constructive critique
• A mentoring programme for beginners
• Club shop and tool hire for members
Part of a Wider Community
SAW is affiliated with the Association of Woodturners Great Britain (AWGB), and many of our members also choose to join the AWGB individually.
We also work closely with other local clubs and regularly demonstrate at events, helping to promote woodturning to a wider audience and inspire others to take up the craft.
Come and Join Us
Whether you’re completely new to woodturning or looking to develop your skills further, you’ll be made very welcome at SAW.
