Open Day 29th October 2006
A resounding success!
Any club is there to help its members, ours is no different, and indeed this is why it was formed. That and a need to be able to expand our knowledge on woodturning and take woodturning into the future by helping newcomers especially the younger generation to develop their skills. Without this the art of woodturning would die.
We have a broad base of turners some more skilled than others, some who make a living by it, some who do craft fairs to supplement their earnings and others who do it just for a hobby. But we are all artists of sorts, and to this end we need an outlet to show our skills, hence the open day where it gives us a chance to show the public and other Woodturners what we can achieve. To my mind there is little point in making something to then have it sitting around at home, with a few admiring comments from friends and family.
The open day also serves as a place where with the help of trade stands, local turners can buy the things they need for their hobby and ask questions of the suppliers.
There were competitions, both for our own club members and an interclub competition. Other clubs were also invited and had their own stands.
